Case Description
In Moscow in January 2023, a 47-year-old local resident, an expert from the Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sergey Gusev, was detained. He was accused of inciting hatred towards Russian military personnel with the threat of violence. According to investigators, on February 24, 2022, Gusev published an anti-war message in a work chat for explosives experts in the Viber messenger. The examination established that the post contained calls for violence against Russian military personnel. On January 20, 2023, the Ostankino District Court of Moscow denied the investigation's request for house arrest and chose a measure of restraint for the defendant in the form of a ban on certain actions. On July 25, 2023, the Nagatinsky District Court of Moscow found Sergey Gusev guilty and sentenced him to 3 years of forced labor in a correctional center. November 8, 2023, the Moscow City Court left the sentence unchanged.
