Case Description
In the Republic of Buryatia on the Baikal-Amur Mainline between Itykita and Okusik stations in the Severomuysk railway tunnel in the evening of November 29 and 30, 2023, an explosion of trains with petroleum products occurred, following the routes 'Tayshet-Tynda' and 'Tayshet-Neryungri'." The explosions caused a fire in fuel tanks and temporarily blocked traffic on the transport artery. No later than December 7, in the Omsk region, a 42-year-old Belarusian, Sergei Yeremeev, was detained on charges of involvement in explosions at the FSB. According to the security forces, the detained individual confessed to taking eight explosive devices from a cache and then planting them on the cisterns of freight trains. He allegedly did this on the instructions of a compatriot living in Lithuania, who was given instructions by Ukrainian special services. Initially, a case was opened under the article on violation of safety rules for the movement and operation of railway transport. Later, the charges were reclassified: he was accused of participating in a terrorist community, committing terrorist acts, undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities, as well as illegal smuggling and storage of explosive devices." According to the investigation, in October 2023, Yeryomeyev agreed for a monetary reward to join a terrorist community, contacting its members through messengers. He took homemade explosive devices from a cache in Belarus, received training in mine-explosive business, and in November 2023 transported explosives to Buryatia in his car. During the night of November 29 and 30, he installed explosive devices on tank cars of freight trains traveling along the Baikal-Amur Mainline. Explosions occurred in the Severomuysky Tunnel, which led to the ignition of cisterns with petroleum products and the blocking of traffic. On December 9, 2023, the Central District Court of Omsk sent Yeryomeyev to a pre-trial detention center. 18 December 2025, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Sergey Yeremeyev guilty and sentenced him to 22 years imprisonment, with the first 5 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony, with a fine of 1 million rubles. rubles. His car was confiscated. The court also granted the victims' civil claims totaling more than 60 million. rubles.
