Case Description
On September 17, 2022, a search was conducted in Petrozavodsk at the home of 24-year-old blogger Sergey Drugov, the author of the Telegram channel 'War is cringe'. A search was conducted as part of a case involving the dissemination on the internet of 'disrespectful information about days of military glory of Russia.' Blogger's phone and computer were confiscated and he was released without a measure of restraint. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a repost on May 5, 2022, in his Telegram channel "War is cringe" of a publication by "Feminist Anti-War Resistance" under the headline "May 9. Day of Trouble. Death Regiment. Parade on Blood. After the search, he was released on his own recognizance. Two days later, Drugo was detained while trying to leave Petrozavodsk. The court chose a measure of restraint for him in the form of a written undertaking not to leave. On July 25, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Karelia found Sergey Drugov guilty and sentenced him to two years of compulsory labor, as well as a three-year ban on administering internet resources. On October 16, 2023, the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged. The Petrozavodsk City Court conditionally released Drugov from punishment early.
