Case Description
In the occupied Kherson region, no later than February 21, 2024, 62-year-old resident of the village of Novaya Mayachka, Sergey Chebukhin, was detained. He was accused of treason. According to the Russian investigation, between December 2022 and May 2023, the man made at least two money transfers to a Ukrainian citizen's bank account, with the transferred funds intended for financial support of Ukrainian armed formations. Law enforcement officers also claim that Sergei corresponded with an acquaintance who repeatedly offered him to collect and transmit the coordinates of the locations of Russian troops." For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was sent to a pre-trial detention center. No later than February 6, 2025, the Kherson Regional Court found Sergey Chebukin guilty and sentenced him to 12 years and 6 months in prison to be served in a strict regime penal colony. He was also fined 350 thousand rubles and sentenced to 1 year and 6 months of restriction of freedom. There is no information about appealing the verdict.
