Case Description
In May 2024, in Saratov, local resident Sergey Babushkin, 29, was detained. He was accused of justifying terrorism. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a comment in a news group on VKontakte, published in February 2021. According to the security forces, in the comments, the Saratov resident allegedly called for terrorist attacks on the territory of Moscow. What happened to the man after his detention is unknown. On June 18, 2024, at 1:40 AM, he was taken to the Kuntsevo Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow, where a protocol on an administrative offense under the article on petty hooliganism was drawn up against the Saratov resident. The protocol claimed that Babushkin, being in a public place (in the yard) in Moscow, violated public order and the peace of citizens - he shouted, violated the silence, accompanying it with obscene language, and did not respond to the demands of the police officers to stop violating public order and illegal actions." On June 19, 2024, Judge Elena Lebedeva of the Kuntsevo District Court of Moscow sent Babushkin under administrative arrest for 10 days. 28 June 2024, the Dorogomilovsky District Court chose Babushkina's measure of restraint in the form of arrest. Later, the charges against the man were toughened - the article on vandalism motivated by political hatred and inciting hatred with the use of violence or the threat of its use was added. According to law enforcement, in June 2024 Babushkin wrote on the wall of a grocery store: "Glory to the RDK!", Forward! Death to the cops... On December 9, 2024, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Sergey Babushkin guilty and sentenced him to 3 years and 9 months in a general regime penal colony. The physical evidence - a marker with which he allegedly wrote the appeal, the court decided to destroy.
