Case Description
On November 7, 2024, Ruslan Nurushyev, a 50-year-old local activist, was detained in Volgograd. The investigator invited him allegedly to return a computer seized during a search in the case of Yevgeniy Kochegin, the former head of the Volgograd branch of Navalny's headquarters. The activist was detained as soon as he appeared in the investigator's office. A criminal case was opened against Nurushev for 'fakes' about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a post on VKontakte about a rocket strike on a cafe in Kharkiv. This is likely referring to the attack on October 5, 2023, on the village of Groza in the Kharkiv region during a wake there — 59 people were killed at that time. The denunciation against Nurutdinov was written by a young man with the surname Bolgov. According to him, he was "outraged" by the activist's attitude toward Vladimir Putin. On November 8, 2024, the Central District Court of Volgograd sent Nurushev into custody. On May 5, 2025, the Traktorozavodsky District Court of Volgograd found Ruslan Nurutdinov guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a general regime penal colony. The court also banned him from administering websites on the Internet for three years. On July 21, 2025, the Volgograd Regional Court upheld the verdict.
