Case Description

In April 2022, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the recruitment of mercenaries and their participation in an armed conflict against the commander of the 'Georgian National Legion' Mamuka Mamulaishvili and 24 Georgian citizens. According to law enforcement officers, Georgian citizen Mamuka Mamulasvili created an armed formation "Georgian National Legion" on the territory of Ukraine, became its leader and involved 24 Georgian citizens in its activities and the activities of a number of other Ukrainian armed formations as mercenaries. They are participating in combat operations on the territory of Ukraine against representatives of the DNR, LNR, and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Furthermore, in connection with the publication on the Internet of calls for violence against Russian military personnel, a criminal case was opened against Mamulasvili for inciting hatred against the social group of Russian military personnel, with threats of violence and using his official position. The citizens of Georgia have been placed on the international wanted list. In March 2023, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow issued arrest warrants in absentia for four members of the "Georgian National Legion": Lasha Ruhiya, Vasil Alibegashvili, Erekle Amiranishvili, Liban Pipiya, and Veka Apresov. On April 10, 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow placed Shota Demetrashvili under house arrest in absentia, and on April 28 - Kortava I.T. In April 2024, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic sentenced Erekle Amiranashvili and Levon Airapetyan to 14 years in a strict regime colony, and Lasha Ruhiya to 13 years in a strict regime colony in absentia." 2. In May, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow issued an in absentia arrest warrant for Israeli Denis Desyatnik and American Troy Offenbaker. On June 7 and 11, 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow issued arrest warrants in absentia for foreign citizens: German citizens Jordi Oligschlager, Tamos Scatt and Tuguldur Purevsuren, British citizens Nathan Go, Bendon Elliott, James Mills, Timothy Franks and Josh Roberts, Frenchman Guillaume Andreoni, Georgian citizens Tornike Tivadze, Rusudan Ivaneshvili and Temur Elkavu, Danes Kim Hjelmgaard and Niklas Nielsen, Austrian Max Muller and Arab Kuseil Luadahi. On June 14, 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow issued an in absentia arrest warrant for foreign nationals: Georgian citizens Alexander Tsirekidze, Revaz Tinashvili, Ramaz Zhangidze, and Vano Nadiradze, and German citizen Nico Strutzel."
