Case Description
Russian authorities detained 19-year-old Ruslan Azimov, a resident of Ryazhsk in the Ryazan region, in late August 2024. A criminal case was opened against him for publicly justifying terrorism. According to investigators, in March 2024, Azimov, while at his residence in the Ryazhsky district, posted textual comments in a Telegram channel that contained justification of destructive and violent actions by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as recognition of the ideology and practice of terrorism as correct. On August 28, 2024, the Ryazhsky District Court of the Ryazan region chose a preventive measure for the defendant in the form of detention. On December 4, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Ruslan Azimov guilty and sentenced him to 2 years of imprisonment. Taking into account the punishment under the verdict of the Ryazan Regional Court dated September 15, 2025, the court determined the final punishment to be 7 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony, with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to work with minors for 5 years and with deprivation of the right to administer websites on the Internet for 2 years. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
