Case Description

Early in the morning on December 20, 2021, near the FSB Directorate for the Southwest Administrative District of Moscow, two unknown individuals unfurled a banner with the inscription 'Happy Chekist Day' and an anarchist symbol. A post about this action appeared on the Telegram channel "Left Bloc. Two days later, on December 23, early in the morning, a search was conducted at 22-year-old activist of the Left Bloc organization Lev Skoryakin. All of his equipment was confiscated, the entire house was turned upside down, and Lev himself was taken from the house in handcuffs. That same evening, at work at the cafe "In Ambush", 19-year-old activist of the "Left Bloc" organization, resident of Vladimir, Ruslan Abasov, was detained. Also in Moscow, 16-year-old supporter of the 'Left Bloc' Umar Bolurov was detained. All three were taken to the Russian Interior Ministry's Department for the Academic District of Moscow after the search, where Skoryakin and Abasov were charged with hooliganism and vandalism in connection with the action on December 20 near the FSB office." Skoryakina was accused of organizing the action, while Abasov was accused of participating in it; the action itself was classified as hooliganism. Bolurov appeared in the case as a witness. During the initial interrogation, at which only the minor's mother was present, without a lawyer, Bolurov named Skoryakin as the organizer of the action, but later, during a confrontation that took place three hours after the next day, Bolurov confirmed his acquaintance with Abasov, but refused to answer other questions, referring to Article 51 of the Constitution." Bolurov also refused to testify that pointed to Skoryakin as the organizer of the action. Two days later, on December 25, the Gagarin District Court of Moscow sent Abasov and Skoryakin into custody. Abasov was placed in a hospital for a month in February 2022 to undergo inpatient psychiatric examination. On July 13, 2022, both activists were released from custody under a ban on certain actions, after which they were able to leave the country. Skoryakin left for Kyrgyzstan. In February 2023, he was arrested in absentia and put on the wanted list. On the night of October 16-17, 2023, Skoryakina was abducted in Bishkek and taken back to Russia, after which she was again placed in a pre-trial detention center. Skoryakin's case was separated into a separate proceeding. December 13, 2023, the Gagarin District Court of Moscow found Lev Skoryakin guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 500 thousand. rubles. Taking into account the time served in custody, the court released Skoryakin from punishment. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. After leaving Russia, Abasov requested asylum in Croatia, but he was accused of possessing child pornography and weapons and deported from the country. He was also detained and charged with robbery, assault on a police officer, hooliganism, and supporting the invasion of Ukraine in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. On January 10, 2023, Abasov was put on the wanted list. 14 June 2024, the Gagarin District Court of Moscow found Ruslan Abasov guilty. The sentence is unknown.
