Case Description
In the Donetsk region in 2020, Russian security forces detained a Ukrainian citizen, former customs officer Roman Reznik. The man was going to Donetsk to see his dying mother. The Ukrainian was accused of involvement in the organization of the murder of Arsen Pavlov (call sign Motorola), although four years had passed since his death at that time. Reznik was charged with "aiding in participation in a terrorist community of SBU employees." Roman spent about four years in a pre-trial detention center in Donetsk, after which he was taken to Russian territory. On July 4, 2023, the Southern Military District Court found Roman Reznik guilty, the sentence is unknown. On February 7, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the sentence. On August 14, 2025, the Ukrainian was released as a result of another prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.
