Case Description

In May 2023, security forces conducted a search at the registered address of anti-war activist Anastasia Nazaruk in Pyatigorsk, Stavropol Krai, as well as at her mother's residence in Anadyr, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. Matrena Nazaruk was told that her daughter sent money to the account of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Raiffeisen Bank, and now she is accused of treason. Anastasia claims that she was never a client of this bank. Law enforcement officers also said that the reason for initiating the case was certain publications on social networks. In June, a search was conducted in Anadyr at the home of Anastasia's husband's mother—Roman Nazaruk. According to unconfirmed reports, law enforcement officers were also searching for Nazaruk in Sevastopol, where he previously held an anti-war picket. Once again, searches of Roman and Anastasia's parents in Anadyr took place in October 2023. Meanwhile, the security forces did not provide them with a resolution on conducting investigative actions. The spouses Roman and Anastasia Nazaruk were charged in absentia in the case of "fakes" about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred. They were put on the wanted list and both were chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention. According to the investigation, between December 2022 and March 2023, Roman and Anastasia, while abroad, published false information about the war in Ukraine. The man was charged with 16 posts on VKontakte about the war in Ukraine, missile strikes, and the deaths of civilians. Thus, in the first post attributed to Nazaruk, it says: 'Russian troops bombed the Drama Theater in Mariupol, killing hundreds of people, and now they are shamefully covering it with a screen.'", 2. In addition, the man was charged with a video recording in which he talks about working in the FSB border service and now condemns the war in Ukraine and Putin. Putin attacked Ukraine in 2014, and he confirmed this in one of his interviews, calling it a blockade of Ukrainian armed forces stationed in Crimea. Thousands of people died in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions because of him, and it seemed that when the conflict was practically frozen and there were agreements, he launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. This only confirms the fact that he cannot be negotiated with. Now hundreds of thousands of people are dying in Putin's war, the man says in the video." In two episodes, the convicted person was also charged with reposting publications by his wife, Anastasia Nazaruk, in which she speaks out against the war in Ukraine.
