Case Description
In August 2023, in the village of Schastlivtsevo, Genichesk district, in the occupied part of the Kherson region, local resident Rinat Ablakimov, a Crimean Tatar and citizen of Ukraine, was kidnapped. Five unidentified individuals wearing masks broke into Ablakimov's house and drove him towards Genichesk. For several weeks, nothing was known about his fate. Reports of his death were refuted in September 2023.
Later, it became known that the Crimean Tatar was charged with participation in the activities of an illegal armed formation on the territory of a foreign state. According to the investigation, Ablakimov took part in the civilian blockade of Crimea. According to local residents, the man never participated in the blockade, but worked in the local mosque and helped internally displaced persons.
On December 12, 2023, the Genichesk District Court of the Kherson Region found Rinat Ablakimov guilty and sentenced him to a term of imprisonment, with the exact length of the sentence and the colony regime remaining unknown. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
