No later than December 2024, a criminal case was initiated in absentia against Lithuanian citizen Rimas Armaitis in the occupied Donetsk region on charges of mercenary activity." 5. He was provided with personal firearms, ammunition, uniforms and special equipment, and underwent military training. After that, Armitais participated for a fee in combat operations on the side of Ukraine against representatives of the security forces of the DNR, LNR, and military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. January 30, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk Republic found Rimas Armaitis guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 12.5 years in a strict regime. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
