Case Description
16 May 2023 in Ufa, FSB and police officers detained Bashkir activist Ramila Saitova near her home. A search was conducted at her place, and her phone, notebooks with notes, tablet, and data storage devices were seized. A criminal case was initiated against Ramila for calls against state security. The reason for initiating the case was a video on YouTube where a woman appealed to the mobilized with a request to refuse to participate in hostilities, to declare their unwillingness to "kill", and also to desert. The woman was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On December 22, 2023, Judge Arthur Suleymanov of the Kirovsky District Court of Ufa sentenced Ramil Saitov to five years in a general regime colony. She was also banned from administering websites on the internet for four years. 2 April 2024, the Supreme Court of Bashkortostan upheld the sentence. Earlier, in November 2021, Saitov was sentenced to three years in prison in a case of public calls for extremist activity. Saitova posted a video on her YouTube channel announcing a Bashkir people's assembly, which, according to her, is to take place on November 12. The activist emphasized that the agenda of the event includes issues about 'demolishing all crosses in the Urals' and 'an ultimatum to Armenians' living in Bashkortostan.
