Case Description
In Novokuznetsk, Sverdlovsk Oblast, no later than August 2023, a criminal case for vandalism was opened against 75-year-old pensioner Raisa Mikhailova. According to law enforcement, in December 2022, Mikhailova wrote "provocative inscriptions about the special operation" with a marker on walls, garbage chutes, elevators, and batteries. On August 1, the deputy prosecutor of the Central District of Novokuznetsk approved the indictment and case materials with the reclassification of the act as vandalism motivated by political, ideological, racial, national, or religious hatred or enmity. On January 22, 2024, Maria Chegodaeva, a magistrate of Justice of the Peace Court No. 2 of the Central Judicial District of Novokuznetsk, found Raisa Mikhailova guilty and sentenced her to one year and two months of restriction of liberty: the court ordered Mikhailova to wear an electronic bracelet, check in with law enforcement, and not leave her home at night. The sentence was not appealed and entered into legal force.
