Case Description
In late February 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bashkortostan opened a criminal case against 52-year-old Radik Bogdanov, a native of the village of Karmaskaly with a previous criminal record. According to the investigation, Bogdanov served in the ranks of the Russian armed forces but surrendered to Ukrainian military personnel in June of last year. After completing his training, he was assigned to one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and participated in combat operations against Russian military personnel. He gave an interview to the Ukrainian blogger Butusov on YouTube while being held captive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the summer of 2023. He was returned to Russia as a result of a prisoner exchange. A criminal case was opened against the serviceman for participating in an armed formation on the territory of a foreign state for purposes that contradict the interests of the Russian Federation." 1. He was sent to a pre-trial detention center. Later, the charge was reclassified as attempted state treason.
