Case Description
In April 2023, a 23-year-old resident of the Rostov part, Pyotr Kolistratov, was detained in the Bryansk region. According to the security forces' version, the man decided to defect to the enemy and join 'one of the radical nationalist armed formations of Ukraine with the aim of participating in military actions against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.'", 5. For this purpose, as the prosecution claims, he entered into correspondence with Ukrainian recruiters and developed a route for crossing the State Border, according to which he arrived in Bryansk, where he bought an inflatable boat to overcome the water obstacle, and then went to the Starodubsky district of the Bryansk region, where he walked towards the State Border of the Russian Federation. In the border zone, Kolyistratov was detained by security forces. A criminal case was initiated against Kolistratov for attempted state treason and illegal crossing of the state border of the Russian Federation. On January 11, 2024, the Bryansk Regional Court found Pyotr Kolistratov guilty and sentenced him to 8 years of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony, with a restriction of freedom for one and a half years. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
