Case Description
On March 14, 2024, in the Belgorod region, 46-year-old local resident Pyotr Gorbunov was detained. He was accused of treason, attempted terrorist attack and sabotage, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, and illegal handling of explosives and explosive devices. According to the investigation, Gorbunov established contact with representatives of a certain banned terrorist organization. He informed them of his willingness to provide assistance in activities against the security of Russia for monetary compensation. The man allegedly received an assignment from his curator, retrieved 22 grenades, 4 boxes of pyrotechnic charges, as well as homemade metal brackets for puncturing car tires from hiding places, and took everything home. Before the election of a preventive measure, Gorbunov was placed in a temporary detention facility. On March 16, 2024, the court placed the man in custody at the request of the investigation. On July 9, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Pyotr Gorbunov guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison, with the first year to be served in prison and the remaining term in a strict regime colony.
