Case Description

In October 2022, a criminal case was opened in Kirov for "fakes" about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred against composer and conductor Prokhor Protasov. Searches were conducted in Protasov's apartment and his parents' home. The reason for the criminal prosecution was posts on VKontakte about the tragedy in Bucha and the missile strike on the shopping center in Kremenchuk. Protasov published video compilations from the scene from "Meduza", Current Time" and blogger Maksim Katz. Sam Protasov lives in Canada. 29 June 2023, the Pervomaisky District Court of Kirov found Prokhor Protasov guilty and sentenced him to five years in a general regime colony in absentia. In addition to the actual term, the court also banned the composer from administering Internet resources for three years. On August 23, 2023, the Kirov Regional Court left the verdict in force.
