Case Description
In January 2023, in Tomsk, an employee of Tomsk State University, Stanislav Shmakov, and two of his acquaintances, Kirill Dudarkov and Polina Plotnikova, were detained. A search was conducted at their place. It is known that Shmakov's documents, electronic devices, and bicycle were confiscated. Afterwards, the man was taken to the Kirovsky police department, and then to the temporary detention center. According to law enforcement, Shmakov, Dudarkov, and Plotnikov damaged banners 'with an image of a tank' and the inscription 'Everything for the front' from October to November 2022. They were accused of vandalism motivated by political hatred. On January 13, the Kirovsky District Court of Tomsk placed all three under house arrest. On April 5, 2024, the death of one of the defendants, Kirill Dudarkov, became known. The reasons for his death are not specified. On August 19, 2024, the magistrate judge of the 4th judicial district of the Kirovsky district court of Tomsk found Stanislav Shmakov and Polina Plotnikova guilty and sentenced both of them to one year and two months of restriction of freedom. The court prohibited the defendants in the case from leaving their homes at night, attending mass events, and leaving Tomsk. The case against Kirill Dudarkov was discontinued by the court due to the death of the defendant. On December 3, 2024, the Tomsk Regional Court released Shmakov Plotnikova from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution.
