Case Description
Russia's Investigative Committee in December 2023 brought charges in absentia against former members of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council - Justice Minister Pavel Petrenko and First Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Yarema. According to law enforcement, Ukrainian officials "made criminal decisions to start the so-called ATO in the DNR and LNR." Charges of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army and assisting terrorism were brought against Yaremen in absentia. The details of the charges are unknown. They were put on the wanted list. On June 24, 2024, the court issued an arrest warrant for Pavel Petrenko.
