Case Description
In Birobidzhan, at the end of May 2024, a criminal case was opened for calls to terrorism against a local 39-year-old resident, Pavel Kushnir. According to law enforcement officials, Kushnir, being an active participant in protest actions in the past and currently an opponent of the SMO, on his YouTube channel "regularly published materials in which he called for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order in the Russian Federation through revolution. Down with the war in Ukraine. Down with the fascist Putin regime. Freedom for all political prisoners. Freedom to all prisoners in general, Kushnir said in the last video published on the channel. The court placed Kushnir in a pre-trial detention center. From the very beginning of his arrest, Kushnir went on a hunger strike and did not eat for two months." At the end of July, Kushnir declared a dry hunger strike in the pre-trial detention center. On the 5th day, July 27, 2024, Pavel passed away. Dilated cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure" was officially cited as the cause of Pavel's death."
