A criminal case was opened against the defendants for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. The court placed the teenagers in a pre-trial detention center. 12 May 2025, the 1st Western Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Pavel Khazov to 9 years in a penal colony and banned him from using the internet for three years. Kosmos Nevolaynen was sentenced by the court to 6 years in prison. The court also ordered to recover from both teenagers almost 24 million rubles in favour of Russian Railways - this is the amount the damage from the arson of the electric locomotive was estimated at."
