Case Description
In Vorkuta, Republic of Komi, no later than May 2023 (the exact date is unknown), a criminal case was initiated against 40-year-old miner Pavel Drozdov for "fakes" about the Russian army, accusing him of spreading knowingly false information about the activities of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and attempting to illegally sell narcotic substances." "According to the investigation, in April 2023 Drozdov purchased a certain narcotic substance, which he partially sold for monetary reward. In addition, the prosecution believes that Pavel created a group in one of the messengers with an audience of at least 28 participants and posted "two video recordings containing knowingly false information" there, as well as wrote comments on the Internet "with the aim of forming a negative attitude towards the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Volgograd City Court of the Republic of Komi sent Pavel Drozdov into custody for the duration of the investigation no later than May 2023. On December 21, 2023, the Vorkuta City Court of the Republic of Komi found Pavel Drozdov guilty and sentenced him to a total of eight years in a strict regime colony. March 19 The Supreme Court of the Komi Republic upheld the sentence.
