Case Description
Police searched the home of 30-year-old Kazan resident Parvina Abuzyarova, a designer of Muslim clothing and blogger, on February 14, 2023. During the search, her mobile phone was taken away and she was not allowed to contact a lawyer. The woman was given a written undertaking to appear, after which she was released. A month and a half later, on March 31, 2023, Parvin was detained. She was taken to the investigative department for questioning right in her home clothes. Abuzarov was accused of public calls for activities aimed against the security of the Russian Federation. According to the FSB's version, on November 13, 2023, Abuzaeva published posts and stories on the social network Instagram in which she called on Russian military personnel to desert and evade military service. The investigation also considered her statements, in which she called the special military operation a 'devil's plan' and persuaded users not to send their husbands and sons to the front. Abuzarova herself linked the persecution to pressure from her ex-husband. On March 31, 2023, the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan placed the defendant under house arrest. On September 11, 2023, the Novo-Savinovsky District Court of Kazan found Parvina Abuzyarova guilty and sentenced her to 3 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony. The court also ordered to confiscate her cell phone as a means of committing a crime. The woman was taken into custody in the courtroom. On November 10, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Tatarstan considered appeals and the prosecutor's submission and appointed Abuzaeva an additional punishment: deprivation of the right to engage in activities for administering sites, electronic and information and telecommunications networks for 1 year. The rest of the sentence was left unchanged.
