Case Description
In the occupied Donetsk region, a criminal case on mercenary activities was initiated in absentia against 26-year-old Colombian citizen Osorio Jose Bernardo Lajos no later than February 2025. According to the Russian investigation, in October 2023, Lajos arrived in the Ternopil district of Ukraine at the territorial center for recruitment and social support, where he joined one of the units of the International Legion as a mercenary. At the training bases, he underwent military training aimed at acquiring skills in handling combat weapons, learning strategy, tactics, and methods of conducting combat operations. He was provided with personal firearms, ammunition, uniforms, and special equipment. Until February 2025, he participated in combat operations against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. At the request of the investigation, Lajos was placed on the international wanted list and in absentia was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention. On May 12, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Osorio Jose Bernardo Lajos guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 14 years of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a strict regime penal colony.
