Case Description

On July 31, 2023, in Kaluga, 77-year-old pensioner Olga Morozova came to the local military enlistment office, poured solvent on the window, set it on fire, and smashed the glass with a stone. The woman was detained immediately. She was accused of attempted destruction of another's property. During the interrogation, the woman said that in early June 2023, a man who introduced himself as an investigator called her and said that her nephew had applied to Sberbank through a power of attorney. Morozova replied that she did not have a nephew. Next, a woman who introduced herself as a bank employee contacted her and advised transferring all the money to "safe accounts" to prevent fraudsters from stealing it. The pensioner believed it and first transferred 300 thousand to the specified account, and then - at the direction of the same "investigator" - another 500 thousand. rubles from her husband's savings. Later, the fraudster told Morozova that a loan of 900 thousand was taken out in her name. rubles, but since she no longer has any money, she and her husband need to burn down the military enlistment office where 'there are people who are going to fight on the side of Ukraine'. To apprehend them, it is necessary to "create panic at the entrance. The pensioner agreed. She was placed under a written undertaking not to leave during the investigation. On September 16, 2024, the Kaluga District Court of the Kaluga Region found Olga Morozova guilty and sentenced her to 1 year of imprisonment with a probationary period of 6 months. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
