Case Description
In early April 2024, a nurse and civil activist Olga Menshikova was detained in Moscow. She was accused of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army. A search was conducted in her house. Security forces "turned everything upside down, kept a woman in handcuffs and did not allow her to drink, took away all the equipment, after which Menshikh was taken for questioning to the Dorogomilovsky Interdistrict Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee. The reason for the criminal prosecution was two posts on VKontakte. The first publication was devoted to the shelling of the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia and the comments of the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry: "Zakharova is carrying utter nonsense on her shitty briefing. How does her land only bear? God, what is she saying. The second post was about civilian casualties in Bucha during the Russian invasion. Before the court hearing on the selection of a preventive measure, the activist was placed in a temporary detention center. On April 9, 2024, the Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow placed Olga under house arrest. In the final version, the Men'shikh brothers were charged under a more serious article, adding a motive of political hatred. On September 12, 2024, the Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow, at the request of the FSIN, tightened the measure of restraint and sent Olga into custody. The reason for the transfer to the pre-trial detention center was a visit to the dentist - according to her, it was an emergency appointment, the tooth was literally falling apart. 'You will still put me in prison for seven years, even with a healthy tooth,' Olga Menshikova commented on her decision. On October 3, 2024, the Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow found Olga Menshikova guilty and sentenced her to 8 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony and deprivation of the right to administer websites on the Internet for 3 years. On April 7, 2025, the Moscow City Court left the sentence unchanged.
