Case Description
In the city of Feodosia, in the annexed Republic of Crimea, a criminal case was opened against 37-year-old local resident Oleg Valeev in September 2022 on charges of repeated "discrediting" of the Russian army. The reason for the persecution were some publications in the VK group and the associated chat "Heil Satana", left in March 2023. As a preventive measure, Valeev was placed under a written undertaking not to leave. Earlier, in December 2022, Valeeva was fined in a case of an administrative offense under the article on discrediting the army due to the publication of certain 'stories' in Telegram. 2 November 2023, the Feodosia City Court of the Republic of Crimea found Oleg Valeev guilty and sentenced him to 1 year 6 months of imprisonment in a penal colony-settlement with additional punishment in the form of deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities related to website administration for 3 years. December 21, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea changed the verdict: it reduced the amount of punishment to 1 year 4 months and a ban on activities for 2 years. In addition, the court replaced Valeev's sentence of imprisonment with compulsory labor in a correctional center with a 10% deduction from his wages to the state.
