Case Description
In Izhevsk, a criminal case was opened against Oleg Monkin, a 34-year-old resident of Kozelsk, Kaluga Oblast, who is serving his sentence in IK-7 of the Udmurt Republic, for the rehabilitation of Nazism. The date of the criminal case initiation is unknown. According to the investigation, while on the territory of correctional colony No. 7 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, Monkin, together with other persons held in this institution, wishing to spread his approval of the crimes established by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal for the trial and punishment of the main war criminals of the European Axis countries of October 1, 1946, expressed an approving assessment of the procedure for the mass killing of Jews by the Nazis - prisoners of the Sobibor death camp in gas chambers. On May 20, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Udmurt Republic found Oleg Monkin guilty and sentenced him to 1 year 6 months of imprisonment with a ban on engaging in activities related to placing materials in information and telecommunications networks, including the Internet, for a period of 1 year 8 months. Taking into account the unserved part of the sentence under previous verdicts, the court imposed a final punishment of deprivation of liberty for 4 years in a strict regime colony. On August 1, 2024, the Fourth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict.
