Case Description
In Moscow, in April 2023, 49-year-old former law enforcement officer Oleg Chursin was detained. He was accused of treason and sabotage. According to the investigation, Chursin established cooperation with a representative of Ukrainian special services and joined a terrorist organization coordinated by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and the Security Service of Ukraine. On the instructions of a foreign intelligence service in April 2023, he committed sabotage at one of the transport infrastructure facilities in the Chelyabinsk region. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. 24 December 2024, the Chelyabinsk Regional Court found Oleg Chursin guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, 5 of which he must serve in prison, the remaining term in a strict regime colony. The court also fined him 250 thousand. rubles, restriction of freedom for 1.5 years after release from the colony, and deprived him of the military rank of 'senior lieutenant of the reserve' and the special rank of 'major of police in retirement.' On June 16, 2025, the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
