Case Description
In Simferopol, in annexed Crimea, at the beginning of June 2025, 37-year-old Crimean Tatar, Ukrainian citizen with forced Russian citizenship Niyara Ersmambetova was detained. She was accused of treason. The reason for the criminal prosecution was confidential cooperation with the Crimean Tatar organization 'Atesh' in favor of Ukraine. According to the FSB, in August 2023, she voluntarily contacted the administrator of a Ukrainian Telegram channel, which is coordinated by the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine." The woman offered assistance in gathering military intelligence, and the data she subsequently provided was used by the Ukrainian side to carry out strikes, the special services stated. According to the investigation, she transmitted photographs of air defense systems deployed near Kerch and in August 2023, on the orders of her curator, set fire to a transformer booth. The court placed the woman in a pre-trial detention center. November 19, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea found Niyara Ersmambetova guilty and sentenced her to 15 years in a general regime colony and 1.5 years of restricted freedom."
