Case Description
In the Ivanovo region, no later than August 2024, a criminal case was initiated for repeatedly publicly displaying the symbols of an extremist organization motivated by ideological and social hatred against 40-year-old Nikolai Ryabinin, who had a prior criminal record. According to the investigation, while serving his sentence at the IK-4 Correctional Facility of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Ivanovo Region, Ryabinin, who had previously been held administratively liable for the same act, on July 19, 2024, and August 21, 2024, deliberately and publicly demonstrated tattoos in the form of eight-pointed stars on his chest to other convicts and prison staff, which are symbols of the extremist movement "AUE" banned in Russia. The court also ordered him to pay more than 1.1 million rubles under a civil lawsuit filed by Rosseti Severo-Zapad. On February 20, 2025, the Kineshma City Court of the Ivanovo Region found Nikolai Ryabinin guilty and sentenced him to 1 year 6 months of imprisonment. Based on the aggregate of sentences, by partially combining the unserved portion of the sentence from the previous conviction, the court imposed a final punishment of 1 year and 9 months of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony. 22 May 2025, the Ivanovo Regional Court clarified the date of commencement of the period of detention, the rest of the sentence was left unchanged.
