Case Description
On the night of March 21-22, 2024, in the Leningrad district of Kaliningrad, an explosion occurred at a gas distribution station due to the depressurization of a gas pipeline. The FSB opened a criminal case. At the end of November 2024, upon entering the territory of the Kaliningrad region from Poland, German citizen Nikolai Gayduk was detained. He was accused of committing a terrorist act and smuggling explosives. According to the FSB, in November 2023 in Hamburg, Gaiduk agreed to cooperate with his former colleague, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Odessa Police Alexander Zherov, who now works for Ukrainian special services and has a residence permit in Germany. Zhorov allegedly went to Kaliningrad and left a cache there. On December 13, 2023, Gaiduk himself came to Russia and retrieved the contents of the cache, and on March 22, he planted explosives at a gas distribution station and detonated it, managing to escape. In November 2024, Gaiduk returned to Russia to inspect another gas station in the region and, allegedly, to sabotage it. The man was detained and placed in custody. During a search of Haiduk's phone, a photo was found showing Haiduk together with German Chancellor Scholz. Five months after his arrest, Haiduk said that he was detained on October 15, 2024, immediately after crossing the border with Russia. He gave a confession under torture - at a hearing on the extension of the measure of restraint, he stated that the security forces beat him, tortured him with electricity, and threatened him with murder. I was going to Russia to see my friends, with whom I studied. Crossing the border was not a problem. And when I left for the customs, I was surrounded by four cars. People in camouflage and balaclavas jumped out of there. Without explaining anything, they pulled me out of the car, put me face down on the ground, handcuffed me, beat me, suffocated me, trampled on me, and only then said: 'We want to search your car.' 1. And it turned out that there was a bottle lying in the passenger seat, allegedly containing an explosive liquid, with a Russian label. You have to be a complete idiot to carry explosives on the front passenger seat!" - said Gayduk in court during another extension of the measure of restraint." Then, according to Gayduk, a bag was put on his head and they said: 'You don't have long to live.' They brought him to the FSB, handcuffed and with a bag over his head, and led him into the basement. They immediately knocked me to the ground, tied my legs, took off my, excuse me, underwear... - said Gayduk. The man spent 24 hours with a bag on his head and in handcuffs, his eyes were taped over with tape. 'I was convinced that if I didn't sign everything they offered me, they would kill me. They removed the tape from my eyes—I signed, then they taped my eyes again, he said. Also, according to Haiduk, since his detention, the investigator has been imposing a state-appointed lawyer on him, once — directly in the office, threatening him with a knife. Haiduk noted that it took him enormous effort to refuse such 'services' and reach an agreement with another defender.
