Case Description
In late March 2024, a criminal case was opened in St. Petersburg for repeated 'discrediting of the army' against former municipal deputy Nikita Yuferev. The reason for the criminal prosecution was three tweets in which the man explains why he will not pay the fine under the protocol for discrediting the army and about the article in the German publication Die Zeit about his municipality of Smolninskoye. In yet another message, the deputy published statistics on those killed in Ukraine with reference to UN data. Yufereyev left Russia on September 25, 2022, and is living in Serbia. On April 16, 2024, Yuferova was placed on the wanted list. Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg issued a ruling on May 24, 2024, to choose a preventive measure for Yuferev in the form of detention from the moment of his detention on the territory of the Russian Federation, or from the moment of transfer to the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.
