Case Description
On September 5, 2023, in St. Petersburg, a self-made explosive device detonated in the yard of a military enlistment office in the Nevsky district. An explosion occurred in a ventilation shaft that leads to an abandoned bomb shelter at house 5 on the street. Krupskaya. The device consisted of 100-150 grams of gunpowder and a radio module with a battery. As a result of the explosion, no one was hurt. According to the investigation, the explosion was carried out by 32-year-old Nikita Semak. Law enforcement officials claim that Nikita found a railway firecracker at work and extracted gunpowder from it to make an explosive device according to instructions found on the internet. He decided to carry out the explosion in this particular place because of his disagreement with the war in Ukraine and mobilization. So he wanted to scare off those who would want to go to the military enlistment office. Semak was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On July 19, 2024, the 1st Western Military District Court found Nikita Semak guilty and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, and the remaining term of imprisonment in a strict regime colony, with a fine of 300 thousand. rubles. 10 January 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
