Case Description
In the occupied Donetsk region on 27 July 2023, two local residents were detained - 18-year-old Viktor Zakharchenko and 19-year-old Nikita Polozov. A criminal case of treason was opened against them. According to the investigation, Zakharchenko and Polozova recruited a certain SBU employee to confidential cooperation. Between June and July 2023, the young men allegedly "collected and transmitted to him information about the location of military equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation that were performing tasks in the zone of the special military operation." The court placed the defendants in the case under arrest. On October 9, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk Republic found the defendants guilty and sentenced Viktor Zakharchenko to 12.5 years in prison, and Nikita Polozov to 13.5 years in prison, to be served in a strict regime penal colony. The court also imposed a one-year restriction of liberty on both of them. March 13, 2025, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction changed the verdict, details unknown.
