Case Description
11 March 2023, the FSB of Russia for North Ossetia detained Nikita Menshov, a 19-year-old student from Yekaterinburg, in Vladikavkaz. Initially, the court arrested him for 15 days under the article on "petty hooliganism" with disobedience to law enforcement officers, he did not admit guilt. Menshov was to be released from the detention facility in the morning of March 26. But he was detained again by security forces. A criminal case of treason was opened against the student. According to law enforcement officials, Menshov, being opposed to the special military operation conducted by the Armed Forces of Russia, decided to travel to Ukrainian territory to participate in combat operations against the RF Armed Forces as part of the 'Russian Volunteer Corps'. The young man was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On November 10, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania found Nikita Menshov guilty and sentenced him to five years in a strict regime colony, as well as fined him 100 thousand. rubles fine with restriction of freedom for two years.
