Case Description
In Sortavala, Republic of Karelia, on the night of March 8, 2023, security forces detained 19-year-old activist and deputy head of the Civil Alliance of Russia, Nikita Klyun. He was accused of "creating a terrorist community. According to the FSB's version, Nikita planned to participate in "sabotage on the railway." 1. The reason for initiating the case was a message with instructions for making explosives, which Klune sent from an unknown sender. The court sent the activist to a pre-trial detention center. Later, charges of treason, confidential communication with a foreign state to the detriment of the Russian Federation, and public justification of terrorism were added. What became the reason for the new accusations is unknown. On May 31, 2024, the 1st Western Military Court found Nikita Klyu guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in prison. Klyunya will spend the first 3 years in prison, and the rest of the time - in a strict regime colony. August 30, 2024, Judge Anatoly Solin of the Appellate Military Court increased the sentence to 19.5 years.
