Case Description
In early July 2023, the FSB detained a local 43-year-old resident Nikita Dyakov in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. During a search of his place of residence, instructions for making homemade explosive and incendiary devices, components for making an explosive device, means of communication with "a large amount of terrorist and extremist content" and correspondence with the coordinator of one of the terrorist organizations of Ukraine were allegedly seized. According to law enforcement, Dyakov was preparing an explosion at an energy facility on the island and at a military enlistment office. The details of the charges are unknown. According to the investigation, the man acted under the guidance of the Ukrainian special services." A resident of Sakhalin was accused of preparing for sabotage and treason. The court placed him in a pre-trial detention center. On December 20, 2023, the Sakhalin Regional Court found Nikita Dyakov guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. For the first 3 years, he must serve his sentence in prison, and the remaining time in a strict regime colony. On April 23, 2024, the Fifth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict.
