Case Description
In Ryazan in July 2023, a local 35-year-old resident, animal rights activist Nikita Chernichkin, was detained. Initially, it was reported that a criminal case had been opened against him for the rehabilitation of Nazism. According to law enforcement's version, in October 2022 Chernichkin wrote an "insulting comment" on social media about the deceased Russian soldier Nikita Samoilov in Gostomel. As a result, charges were added for 'fakes' about the Russian army motivated by political hatred and calls for terrorism. Details are unknown. In late May 2025, the measure of restraint was changed to house arrest. On June 7, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Nikita Chernichkin guilty and sentenced him to six years in a general regime colony. The court also banned Chernichkin from administering websites for three years. On September 23, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the sentence.
