Case Description
Police detained 30-year-old Nikita Bandurist near the local FSB office in Vidnoye, Moscow region, on the night of May 24, 2023. The man threw a bottle with an incendiary mixture at the door of a building on Shkolnaya Street. The bottle broke, but the fire did not start. During the interrogation, the man said that he was thus protesting against the construction of the Moscow Ring Road duplicate. Nikita had long and consistently spoken out against the construction of a duplicate, as well as against the erection of tents in the city and the improvement of the forest park. Days before the attempted arson of the special services building, Nikita also set fire to an auto crane at a road construction site. Initially, a criminal case was opened against Bandurist for attempted destruction of another's property, but the charges were later reclassified as terrorism. The court sent him to a pre-trial detention center. On March 19, 2024, the 2nd Western Military Court ruled to apply compulsory medical measures to Nikita Bandurist. The court's decision was not appealed and entered into force.
