Case Description

In June 2023, a criminal case was opened in the closed administrative-territorial formation (ZATO) of Znamensk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, against local resident Natalya Belyavskaya for "fakes" about the Russian army. The exact date of her detention and the preventive measure chosen are unknown. According to the investigation, in April 2022, Belyavskaya, motivated by a dismissive attitude toward the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during the special military operation, and aware that her actions would cause widespread public resonance, using excerpts from the official briefing of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation dated April 23, 2022, posted and published on her personal page on the social network "VKontakte," intended for viewing by an unlimited number of people, publications in the form of text entries and images containing, under the guise of reliable information, knowingly false information about the physical destruction of civilians by Russian servicemen on the territory of Ukraine. In June 2023, the Akhtubinsk District Court of Astrakhan Oblast issued three rulings on conducting searches and seizures at the residence, including the seizure of items and documents containing state or other secrets protected by federal law, in relation to Natalya Belyavskaya: on the 8th and twice on the 19th of June. On June 5, the court also granted the investigation's motion to obtain information about connections between subscribers and subscriber devices in relation to Belyavskaya. On January 31, 2024, the Akhtubinsk District Court of Astrakhan Oblast found Natalya Belyavskaya guilty and sentenced her to 8 months of corrective labor with a 10% deduction from her wages monthly to the state budget. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
