Case Description
In Novosibirsk on the evening of November 17, 2023, unknown persons set fire to the door of the military enlistment office for the Dzerzhinsky and Kalininsky districts of the city. The fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived. On the same day, a 74-year-old local resident, pensioner Nadezhda Shusharo, was detained on charges of arson. According to law enforcement officials, the woman attempted to set fire to the military enlistment office building 'by prior conspiracy' and 'for the purpose of destabilizing the activities of government bodies.' A criminal case was opened against the pensioner for terrorism. The next day, on November 18, the Dzerzhinsky District Court of Novosibirsk placed an elderly woman in a pre-trial detention center. Nadezhda Shusharo herself told the security forces that she had become a victim of fraudsters. Unknown persons fraudulently persuaded the pensioner to sign over her apartment to them. After that, they offered her to set fire to the military enlistment office - according to them, it was there that the people who had deceived her were hiding.
