Case Description
On one of the voting days during Putin's election in the city of Dzerzhinsky, Moscow Oblast, 67-year-old Nadezhda Nikulina came to Polling Station No. 232 and poured water with dye into the ballot box. 343 ballots were spoiled, and the work of the election commission was suspended, since it was necessary to replace the only ballot box with another. The pensioner was detained. A criminal case was opened against Nikulina for 'obstructing the exercise of electoral rights or the work of election commissions', committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy or an organized group." "According to the investigation, an unknown person wrote to Nikulina on WhatsApp offering to pay off her loan in exchange for her spoiling ballots, and the woman agreed. The court appointed house arrest for Nikulina as a preventive measure. On June 6, 2024, the Lyubertsy City Court of the Moscow Region found Nadezhda Nikulina guilty and sentenced her to 1 year of imprisonment suspended, as well as 1 year of probation. The court ordered Nikulin to appear for registration once every two months on the day specified by the inspectorate, not to change his place of residence without notifying the specialized state body that monitors the behavior of conditionally convicted persons, and not to disturb public order. Before the sentence came into force, the court placed her under a travel restriction, releasing her from house arrest. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
