Case Description
Activist Aleksandr Pravdin was detained in Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast, on July 27, 2023. He was taken to the police station in the Gatchinsky district of the Leningrad region to draw up a report on an administrative offence under the article on inciting hatred because of the poster "Russians, you are not human. Pravdina was accompanied by his wife, Momagul Alimordanova. The police demanded that she leave the police station, but she refused. After that, according to Pravdina, tear gas was sprayed in her face, she was knocked to the floor, and handcuffs were put on her. As a result, a criminal case was opened against Momagul Alimorodova for the use of violence against an employee of the police department in the Gatchina district of the Leningrad region with the surname Ivanova. According to police, Momagul took advantage of the opportunity and entered the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Gatchina District, where she knocked down a police officer onto the tiled floor and pushed her down the stairs. During the investigation, Alimardonova was placed under a written undertaking not to leave. A month later, the woman was sent to a psychiatric hospital for an examination. According to Pravdin, she was placed in a supervision chamber there, where men and women are held together. Unknown drugs were prescribed to her, and her husband was forbidden to meet with a doctor. During one of the meetings, Prutdin discovered traces of strangulation on his wife's neck. In December 2023, the prosecutor's office returned the case to the investigation.
