Case Description
6 July 2023, a criminal case was opened in Nizhny Novgorod under the article on "fakes" about the Russian army against Mikhail Zharikov, a fan of the Nizhny Novgorod hockey club "Torpedo. The reason for this was an Instagram broadcast that he conducted on June 2. Then he compared Russia to Nazi Germany and criticized Russians for almost not participating in protests against the war. Zharikova was sent to SIZO. On August 1, due to the same broadcast, a case of "rehabilitation of Nazism" was also opened against the Nizhny Novgorod resident. The reason for this was a post with a quote from Solzhenitsyn about the "role of the ROA in the liberation of Prague" - that Prague was liberated not by the Red Army, but by the insurgents of the Prague militia and the ROA. In addition, Zharikov was accused under the article on justifying terrorism because of a comment in the same broadcast about the explosion of Zakhar Prilepin's car. On October 20, 2023, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Zharikov guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in prison. On May 13, 2024, the Appellate Military Court reduced his sentence to 5 years and 10 months.
