Case Description
1. In Irkutsk in August 2023, a 38-year-old local resident Mikhail Yurkin was detained. He was accused of calls for terrorism and extremism. Details of the accusation are unknown. According to Yurkin himself, the reason for the criminal prosecution was 'comments against inequality in the region'. What exactly the Irkutsk resident wrote is unknown. During the investigation, the defendant was placed under a written undertaking not to leave. On May 23, 2024, the 1st Eastern Military District Court found Mikhail Yurkin guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in a general regime penal colony. The man was taken into custody in the courtroom. The verdict was not appealed and entered into force.
