Case Description
On February 13, 2024, activist Mikhail Sharygin was detained in Nizhny Novgorod in connection with the case of participation in the 'Navalny Headquarters.' During the search, symbols of the FBK and over 10 thousand dollars in cash were allegedly found in his possession. A criminal case was opened against Sharygin for participating in an extremist organization. According to the security forces' version, the man 'on the instructions of the leadership of anti-Russian centers abroad' tried to involve residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the activities of Navalny's headquarters to 'destabilize the socio-political situation' before the presidential elections in Russia. In particular, he "reposted entries from a banned community and urged subscribers to join the group." On February 15, 2024, the Nizhny Novgorod District Court sent Mikhail Sharygin to the pre-trial detention center. On February 13, 2025, Judge Alexander Koblíkov of the Avtozavodsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod found Mikhail Sharygin guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in a general regime colony with a 10-month restriction of freedom after release. On May 30, 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court upheld the verdict. In Nizhny Novgorod, a criminal case was opened against a member of the Yabloko party, Mikhail Sharygin, on charges of calling for terrorism. The basis for criminal prosecution was a comment on the city website NN.ru by a user under the pseudonym "Mikhail Argonov" about the "fence explosion" under a news article about an ambulance that could not pass on a call due to illegal construction. A comprehensive expert examination conducted during the investigation showed that Sharigin's statements contained "a combination of linguistic and psychological signs of propaganda of the idea of the necessity of radical actions (carrying out an explosion) against city authorities in order to influence their decision. According to Sharygin, the experts concluded that by using the words "residents of occupied lands" and "occupiers, he opposed local residents to city authorities in a socio-political conflict, and by pointing out the futility of requests to them, he indicated a way to influence them in the form of carrying out an explosion. Sharygin said that in the case materials, FSB officers indicated that he "chronically suffers from criticism of the authorities and uses the internet for the purpose of engaging in prohibited activities." 5. The exact date of the initiation of the case and the chosen measure of restraint are unknown. On October 7, 2020, the 2nd Western Military Court found Mikhail Sharygin guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 400 thousand. rubles. January 22, 2021, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
