According to the investigation, Melkonyan contacted a representative of the Ukrainian side via the Internet in order to join one of the terrorist organizations of Ukraine to carry out actions detrimental to Russia's security. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. 18 July 2024, the 2nd Western Military Court found Mikhail Melkonyan guilty and sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment with a fine of 300 thousand. rubles. The first 2 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining three - in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
